The Modi wave and other side-effects

There may or may-not be a "Modi wave"in the country. But there is another wave. It's the "we are not going to put up with the old political ways" wave. We the People want good governance, we want safety for women and children, we want economic growth. We do not care about personalities or their ideologies. We know that all politicians lie.

Arvind Kejriwal failed to govern. Rahul Gandhi is a non-entity and is the face of a corrupt non-democratic government. Many old leaders of the BJP are now non-entities. Who remains? 'Narendra Modi'.

Modi is getting huge support because he is speaking the language of development; that the youth of this country identify with. Others can do the same, but they are not doing it. The language of subsidies and handouts does not work anymore because people do not believe that subsidies will actually reach them. Nature abhors a vacuum and Modi has filled it so he is getting support.

The facts are very simple. People care about jobs, income and a better life style for their families. When this is the goal, people will ignore any negative aspects of Modi and vote for him. People, especially the Youth, want development and economic growth. They do not care one little bit about ideology, beliefs and other non-economic parameters because they think those are all irrelevant. Accept this and win. Or ignore it and leave the field vacant for Modi.

This is where the Congress has been foolish, by focusing on everything except the development model. Many of the old guard of the BJP also toe the Congress line, because they had a comfortable relationship with the Congress in the past. The new politics of Modi scares them, because they instinctively know they will be side-lined in the new arrangements. The Aam Aadmi Party has shown itself to be weak, indecisive and corrupt.

Given current circumstances, many people may dislike Modi for any number of reasons, but the country will still vote for him. In the end, only an economic agenda of development will win. As Bill Clinton stated it for the world: "Its the economy, stupid".
